Green Skills Training at Exeter College
The newly launched Green Skills Hub at Exeter College’s Construction Training Centre offers learners hands-on experience with Daikin’s advanced ASHP technology. It was officially opened at a high-profile event attended by Tomoji Miki , Managing Director of Daikin UK; Martyn Ford, South West Sales Manager at Daikin; Councillor Philip Bialyk of Exeter City Council; John Laramy, Principal & CEO of Exeter College; local employers; and Quantum, who designed and installed the training bays.
Martyn Ford from Daikin has already led a live ASHP training session for over 100 plumbing and heating apprentices, introducing them to the environmental and technical benefits of low-carbon heating solutions.

Preparing Apprentices for a Low-Carbon Future
Councillor Philip Bialyk emphasized Exeter’s need for skilled professionals to help retrofit older housing stock and tackle climate change locally. Quantum’s comprehensive training installation includes six ASHP bays and two electrical ecosystem bays, reflecting the critical demand for multidisciplinary green skills in the construction industry.
Molly Hooton, a Level 3 Plumbing and Heating apprentice at Exeter College, shared her experience of using the ASHP bays in her training so far:
“I love heat pumps. I’d like to go into servicing and maintenance because I enjoy the technical and surveying side of plumbing, like heat loss calculations and maths. The hands-on experience at Exeter College has given me real confidence and opened my eyes to all the career paths available.”
The Green Skills Hub also supports free “Introduction to Heat Pumps” courses for homeowners, landlords, and tradespeople across East Devon, broadening its community impact.
Quantum’s installation of a comprehensive suite of training bays, delivered in partnership with Daikin UK, demonstrates the power of industry and education working together. By combining advanced heat pump technology with hands-on, employer-informed training, Exeter College is helping to future-proof the region’s workforce and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to equipping learners with the skills, confidence, and experience needed to thrive in the green energy sector.
