Delivering regulated green skills qualifications for the clean energy workforce

We are proud to announce that Quantum Training is now an NOCN approved centre. Approval was confirmed on 26 August 2026, marking a major milestone in our mission to build the green skills the UK needs to reach net zero.

As an NOCN approved centre, we can now deliver and assess nationally recognised, Ofqual regulated qualifications in heat pump and renewable energy training directly. Learners who complete our programmes will receive NOCN certification, backed by the rigour and quality assurance of a leading UK awarding organisation.

What NOCN approval means

NOCN Group is a UK awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual. Centre approval is only granted once a training provider has shown it has robust systems in place for quality assurance, assessment, learner support and safeguarding.

Reaching this standard meant reviewing and strengthening every part of how we work, from our policies and registers to our staff and learner documentation. The result is a quality framework that gives learners, employers and partners confidence that our training meets a nationally recognised standard.

Our approved heat pump and renewable energy qualifications

We are approved to deliver the following NOCN qualifications and assured courses:

NOCN Level 3 Award in the Design and Installation of Air Source Heat Pumps

Our flagship heat pump qualification for installers and engineers moving into low carbon heating. Learners will develop an understanding and practical skills of how to install, commission, and handover air source heat pump systems.

NOCN Level 2 Award in Fundamental Principles of Renewable Technologies and Sustainable Energy

This Level 2 qualification has been developed in close collaboration with Quantum, specialists in renewable technology training. It combines essential knowledge of fossil fuels, global warming and net zero goals with practical, hands-on learning on real demonstration equipment. Learners explore how key renewable technologies work, including air source and ground source heat pumps, solar thermal, solar PV, battery storage and EV charging, building the understanding and confidence needed to progress in the growing green skills sector.

NOCN Level 2 Certificate in Fundamental Principles of Renewable Technologies and Sustainable Energy

This Level 2 Certificate has been developed in close collaboration with Quantum, specialists in renewable technology training. It equips learners with knowledge of current issues including fossil fuels, global warming and net zero goals, alongside hands-on learning on heat pumps, solar thermal, solar PV, battery storage and EV charging. A key focus is system design, with learners exploring how air source heat pump systems are sized, specified and planned to meet the heating needs of a property, as well as the installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements that follow

Train the Trainer Renewable Technologies (NOCN assured course).

Designed for college lecturers and trainers who want to deliver renewable energy training on heat pumps, solar thermal, solar PV, battery storage and EV charging, with confidence on manufacture neutral equipment.

Practical learning in purpose-built training facilities

We believe the best green skills are built through hands-on, practical learning. Our training facilities are equipped with working demonstration rigs covering air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and wider renewable technologies, so learners practise on working systems to equip them with the necessary skills that they can then apply to a real-world approach

This practical approach means learners leave with the confidence to design, install and commission clean energy systems on site. It also allows our assessors to observe real competence, which is central to the quality standards NOCN expects.

What this means for learners, colleges and employers

For learners, NOCN approval means a nationally recognised qualification that opens doors in one of the UK’s fastest growing sectors. Whether you are an experienced heating engineer or new to the industry, our heat pump installer training gives you a clear route into clean energy careers.

For colleges, we are a trusted partner for upskilling teaching staff and expanding green skills provision. Our Train the Trainer Renewable Technologies course and Train the Green Trainer programme help colleges build the confidence and capability to deliver renewable energy training themselves.

For employers, our regulated qualifications provide assurance that your workforce is trained to a recognised standard, supporting quality installations and customer confidence.

Building the green skills workforce for net zero

The UK’s transition to clean energy depends on having enough skilled people to install and maintain low carbon technologies. Heat pumps, solar PV and battery storage are central to decarbonising our homes and buildings, and demand for qualified installers continues to grow.

Becoming an NOCN approved centre strengthens our ability to close this skills gap. By combining regulated qualifications with practical learning, we are helping to build a confident, competent net zero skills workforce. We are proud to work alongside partners across industry and education, including NOCN, to make this happen.

“Becoming an approved NOCN Training Centre means we can support colleges not only with the facilities they need, but with the people who bring those facilities to life. While the sector continues to build its pipeline of suitably skilled trainers, we can help colleges upskill their existing staff and students, ensuring that progress doesn’t have to stop while they build their own internal capacity. It’s about keeping learning moving forward and giving more people the skills, confidence and opportunity to be part of the transition to a low-carbon future.”
