Launch of our Training Centre in green renewable technologies
At the Quantum Group, we recently opened our doors to deliver LCL Awards accredited qualifications in the design, installation and maintenance of Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs), helping tradespeople in and around London upskill in heat pumps following the growing demand for low carbon, cost-effective heating. Our centre also has course approval from CIPHE. In addition to our ASHP course, we also offer a new Low Temperature Heating and Hot Water Systems in Dwellings designed by CIPHE, WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) and Hot Water Systems and Safety (incl Unvented Hot Water). Further courses in Solar Thermal, Solar PV and Battery Storage will be launched soon.
The new training facility will see plumbers and heating engineers learn how to use cutting edge Daikin equipment and develop skills required to build low energy homes, to modify existing homes and businesses to become more energy efficient.
The centre, housed at our Daikin Sustainable Home Centre in Rainham, only 11 miles from London Docklands, features an open plan training room with a Daikin air source heat pump and cylinders to provide hands-on training and learning. There is also an assessment room where our learners sit their online examinations.
The focus for this renewable training centre is to train and upskill in green technologies in order to help the Government meet their target of net zero by 2025.
There are currently 135,000 qualified heating plumbing engineers in the UK, of which only 3000-4000 are heat pump trained. Around 35,000 heat pumps are installed in the UK per year which is far off the 600,000 installations target that the Government wish to meet by 2028 as part of its ambitions for the UK to become carbon neutral in 2050. We collaborated with Havering Council and hosted the Green Business Event in August as they have set their carbon neutral goal as a borough for 2040. With our focus and ethos on social value and encouraging local business links, we fully support Havering in doing so!
To support stimulate this growth, the Government announced the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in April 2022, which offers up to £5,000 towards the cost of an Air Source Heat Pump. This coupled with the increasing concerns over the cost of energy, mean heat pumps and other renewable technologies are set to become a common part of our homes and businesses. Our mission is to help with this growth and train installers to be a part of this. There are simply not enough trained installers to meet the increasing demand for heat pumps, nor the need for them.
Once our learners have successfully completed their LCL course, they are invited and encouraged to attend free Daikin Altherma LT Monobloc Standard Installation Level 1 course.
We support engineers and installers by offering design guidance as our renewable energy team can produce the design and schematics for the best technical, renewable solution regardless of scale. Our experience ranges from domestic new installation to retrofit to commercial housing projects or public service facility. We are also MCS accredited so we really do offer a great support package!
