LCL Awards: Installation and commissioning of electric vehicle charging equipment in domestic, commercial and industrial locations

Introduction

  • Installation of dedicated conductive charging equipment for electric and hybrid vehicles, including extended-range vehicles.
  • Installation of AC and DC charging equipment for plug-in electric vehicles.

This Level 3 Award complies with BS EN 61851 and the fourth edition of the Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Equipment Installations. It has been updated to include changes made by BS7671:2018+A2:2022.

Who is this course for

This course is designed for practicing electricians, electrical technicians and engineers with experience of electrical installations and associated inspection and testing.

You may be looking to update and extend your skills, obtain a licence to practice, prepare for further learning or training and/or extend the range of work you can undertake. Alternatively, this course may form part of your continuous professional development.

Course content

The course is made up of a single unit:

  • LCL-E3007: Installation and Commissioning of Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment

Subjects include (but are not limited to):

  • Key requirements for electric vehicle charging equipment (EVCE) installations.
  • Equipment of, and differences between, the four charging modes
  • Preparation for design and installation of EVCE.
  • Installation of EVCE in domestic, commercial and industrial locations.
  • Verification, inspection, testing and handover of an EVCE installation.

You will complete two practical assessments as you go through the course and one 50-minute online assessment.

Course requirements

To apply for this course, you’ll need experience of installing electrical installations in domestic, non-domestic premises or both, and hold both of the following as a minimum:

  • Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations.
  • Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671 (current edition).

If you do not hold these qualifications but have auditable, relevant experience, you can take a formal RPL assessment with an approved electrical assessor to determine suitability for the course.
