Who this course is for

Learners from a heating background, so you demonstrate their knowledge in the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems to achieve a nationally recognised qualification. This is for the purpose of membership retention to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) upon successful completion of the course. This qualification has been updated in association with the Heat Pump Association and MCS.

Participants will learn:

  • What a heat pump is, the principle of the vapour compression system and system components.
  • The different operational characteristics of each type of heat pump unit and system arrangement.
  • Fundamental principles of heat pump efficiency and design selection common for heat pumps.
  • Fundamental principles of domestic hot water cylinder selection and system design that are common for heat pumps.
  • Fundamental principles of hydraulic system design common for heat pumps.
  • Fundamental principles of heat pump controls.
  • How to plan and prepare for the installation of heat pumps.
  • The requirements to install and test heat pump systems.
  • The requirements to commission heat pump system installations.
  • The requirements for the handover of a heat pump installation.
  • The requirements for routine service and maintenance of a heat pump system installation.
  • How to undertake fault diagnosis work on a heat pump system installation.

LCL-R30336 Air Source Unit

Participants will learn:

  • The preparatory work required for the installation of an air source heat pump.
  • Common requirements for the installation of an air source heat pump connected to hydraulic emitter circuits.
  • How to install heat pump units (non-refrigeration units).
  • How to test and commission an air source heat pump system (non-refrigerant circuits).
  • How to undertake the non-refrigerant circuit routine service and maintenance of an air source heat pump system (non-refrigerant circuits).

Course requirements

For those looking to become MCS registered for only installation of heat pumps, you will need to hold the WRAS Water Regulations qualification. We offer this course, for further information please click here.

If you apply for MCS registration for install only of heat pumps, you will be required to demonstrate that you have a contract in place with a qualified design engineer who must also be MCS registered as a designer of heat pump systems. Quantum Group can produce a contract for you with one of our designers. Please contact our Sales Team to find out more by emailing sales@thequantumgroup.uk.com.

For MCS registration for the installation and design of heat pumps, learners will need to hold the LCL Awards Levels 3 in Low Temperature Heating and Hot Water Systems in Dwellings. We offer this course, please click here for further information.

Candidates will need to meet the minimum qualification and experience requirements as outlined in the prerequisites section on our booking form below..
